Turtle Nest - Chandani Lokuge Lokuge is likely a very good writer. I expect if the writing had intruded on my reading I would have noticed. But she is not a cheery writer; she is a dour, depressing, bleak writer. Here is what I learned from Turtle Nest: your family sucks, everyone sucks, no-one will be kind to you, nothing good will ever happen to you, if anything good ever happens to you it will soon turn to sucking, no-one likes you, no-one cares for you, family is a fiction, men are bastards, women have no power, life sucks. Oh, the priest will bring you second hand clothes if he notices your family is really, really, really poor. But remember: no-one loves you.
